The importance of keyword research

At the beginning of his career as a blogger, because do not understand about keyword research I create articles with topics that no one is searching. I wonder, when the article was ranked first Google search results but why not get traffic?

Only after I understand about keyword research I realized that the key words that I seek no one is searching.

Google keyword research with Keyword Planner

My favorite tool in conducting keyword research is the Google Keyword Planner. The reason is, because of its free and complete. In addition, because Google's own certainly more accurate.

To perform keyword research is very easy:

  1. Enter a keyword, you can enter more than one. To enter more than one keyword use commas or line breaks
  2. Set a target country
  3. select a language
  4. Click 'get ideas'

Then you will be directed to the next page.

Example:

There are 300 people who search for the keywords "buy mobile phone" within a month. On the other hand, if replaced with "selling mobile phones" the result was 1,800, this means looking for selling mobile phones, more than buy mobile phone.

By leveraging our knowledge of on-page SEO from the previous chapter, then we can optimize your pages using keywords
selling mobile phones, more than buy mobile phone.

Such is the basic gist of the keyword research.

Searching for keywords with low competition

In doing keyword research, usually, we as the owner of a new website targeting the lower competition. This is because new websites usually do not have a "foundation" strong so it will lose when competing with large websites.

Long tail keywords

One thing that needs to know about keyword research is long tail keywords.

In addition to the keywords you are looking for, Google Keyword Planner also shows the number of searches of similar keywords. For example, from the image above, in addition to keywords new clothes there are also others such as buying and selling clothes, buy clothes online, buy clothes online sale, and others.

From here, if we optimize website for keyword buy clothes, then there are only 320 seekers per month. But if we optimize to buy clothes online, the total search is 1,300 + 320 = 1,620.

But of course the decision to return to your hand and irrelevant whether or not your content with the existing long tail.

Lastly, if your website such as an online store (e-commerce) or monetized by affiliate products, long tail keywords usually provide a greater conversion rate than regular keywords. This is because people who use long tail usually afford higher intentions.

For example, people looking for "blue dress" to "buy blue shirt". The former is usually just want to find information, while the second looks pure intention to buy.
